Slacker Post

We've had an extremely busy week, so I haven't had time to blog at all! Here's a photo-heavy recap of what we did last week:

On Saturday Holly and I braved the 98 degree heat to check out the giant Stanford Ranch community garage sale. We scored some really great deals including a couple of games, two wooden puzzles, some books, a Thermos, and a rolling Thomas the Tank Engine suitcase for Sutton (so he can stop trying to steal Sawyer's!) - grand total spent: $7.00!

Sawyer testing out his new Kerplunk game (aka "The Marble Game")

Definitely some good fun for the $1 I spent on it!

I also picked up this book from 1965. It's missing the head that used to be a part of the cover, but the inside illustrations are adorable (and you know that for 25 cents I can't resist anything cute and vintage!). I think I may scan the pictures and make magnetic refrigerator puzzles for the boys.

This wasn't part of the garage sale haul, but I picked it up on Ebay for $1 + shipping, and it arrived in the mail last week too. I can proudly attest to the fact that it keeps my homemade cookies nice and fresh - just what we needed!

Mitch built the boys a new raised sandbox, and we set up a fun sand and water area for them in the rock corner.

Sand + Water = Mud Pies (and loads of fun for little boys!)

Sawyer has really become Mommy's Little Garden Helper, and he especially likes to help me keep everything watered. We added a layer of mulch to the garden beds to help retain moisture since it's already so hot here (it was 103 on Sunday!). Our strawberries are doing really well, and the boys have been picking and snacking on them on a regular basis already.

Of course, it's MUCH more fun to spray the hose into the air to make "rain" and rainbows!

We planned a backyard camp out for Saturday night, and Mitch and the boys got the tent all set up and ready to go.

Sutton was having a blast checking out the empty tent, but since it was still super hot outside we decided to retreat indoors for one half-hour showing of Tom & Jerry before we set up camp.

In the end, both boys were worn out from their busy day, and they fell asleep on the couch before we could even get our sleeping bags set up outside. So much for camping out!

Sutton has gotten really interested in building with his Mega Blocks this past week. He especially likes to make cars and trains on the wheel bases.

Mitch was busy doing yard work outside on Sunday morning, so the boys and I stayed indoors and brought the outside in with our fingerprint ladybugs. The boys have a fascination with ladybugs right now since about 100 of them have taken up residence in our garden and yard, so they really enjoyed this quick and easy project.

The highlight of Sunday - Sutton got a big boy bed! We got him a nice pillow top mattress, which is sitting on the ground for now, but Mitch has grand ideas of building him a firetruck bed...we found the plans already, now if we can just find the time somewhere!

Sutton sleeping soundly in his new bed. Unfortunately it didn't break him of his newest habit - waking up every morning at around 5:40! He has been going to bed at normal time (around 8:00 pm), he has blackout curtains on his windows, and we've been shutting off his nightlight when we go to bed to ensure that his room is dark in the early morning, and yet he still continues to rise with the sun! It might not be so bad if he didn't immediately go into Sawyer's room and wake him (and us) up every morning too!

Hattie came over on Monday to stay with us while Holly went to work. She brought her Elefun game with her (one of Holly's garage sale finds), and they all had a blast trying to catch the butterflies in their nets. We might need to pick up our own Elefun game if we can find it at another garage sale or some place for super cheap.

We had a contest to see who could build the tallest tower with the Mega Blocks.

We did some Montessori work for awhile. Hat's matching animal cards with little rubber animals.

After Sutton went down for his nap, these two silly face kiddos made themselves a snuggly pillow and blankie area to settle down and watch Bolt for awhile.

Grandma bought Sawyer a plain orange t-shirt, but I thought it could use some personality. I had seen a design on etsy awhile back that I thought was perfect for Sawyer, but it wasn't available in his size. The other day I was sorting his clothing and realized that we had all the necessary materials for me to recreate it on my own. I grabbed some fabric paint and got to work, and he is SO proud of his new shirt. In case you didn't know, this kid is 100% addicted to cheese. He even calls himself my "cheese boy" LOL
