First let me say that taking trick-or-treat pictures is hard! It seems that as soon as you slip a costume on a preschooler you've pretty much given yourself a guarantee that they're not going to sit still anymore. Holly took this picture above, and it's probably the best one that I have from last night.
Almost ready to go meet Hattie and walk around her neighborhood
Sawyer kept dipping his hands into our outgoing candy dish before he even headed out to trick-or-treat. I figured that an early start to the evening's sugar rush wouldn't kill them...they had taken a three hour nap, and I actually had to wake them up at 6:00 to eat and get their costumes on so we wouldn't be late.
Racecar driver, Bumblebee, and Yoda.
Sutton had his costume picked out for weeks, but Sawyer didn't decide until the very last minute what he wanted to wear. Fortunately we have several choices on their costume rack since they're really into playing dress up right now. I was kind of surprised that he chose the bee costume since he doesn't usually want to play with it, but he actually kept it on all night without complaint.
The boys had lots of fun trick-or-treating with Hattie, but after awhile the dark streets of her neighborhood started to look unfamiliar to them and they both started saying they were scared of the dark and scared of all the strangers (other people out trick-or-treating or the people at the doors giving out candy), so we came back home and went to visit a few of our more familiar neighborhood friends. Mitch took them trick-or-treating around the cul de sac, and they had fun wrapping up the evening playing outside with all the neighborhood boys.
Their candy buckets were about 2/3 full after trick or treating around Hattie's neighborhood (and those pumpkins hold SO much candy!). We came home and emptied them out before they went around our neighborhood...and then they came home with their buckets about 1/2 full again! I think we managed to get back almost as much candy as we gave out - a TON!!!
