Pumpkin Seed Trees

I realized that it's been awhile since I've posted a kids craft post, so here's what we did yesterday to make use of some of our leftover pumpkin seeds (since we're not a pumpkin-seed-eatin' kind of family). First, I gathered a couple of handfuls of cleaned and dried seeds into a quart size Ziploc bag and then added just a few drops of yellow and red food coloring and mushed them all around until the seeds were coated. I added the food coloring very sparingly because I didn't want to completely cover my seeds, just enough to give them a little varigated color.

Gather up your supplies: tree cut out (yes, this is the same template that we used here...I'm recycling, dontcha know ;)), background paper, colored pumpkin seeds and glue.

First, you must insist that it is too hot/messy/itchy to wear a shirt while crafting. Remove it, and then cover your tree in glue and glue it onto the background paper.

Secondly, copy your brother and remove your shirt as well. Monkey see, monkey do. Then add some drops of glue to your tree and start adding those pumpkin seed "leaves."

Voila! Masterpiece complete...and it only took about ten minutes. Fantastic!

It looks almost exactly like our real tree, don't you think? Well, except for the part where our tree has already dropped most of its leaves. Jeesh, what a mess! Look at all of those leaves all over the ground! I guess that's what you get for having gigantic trees...someone get a rake over here stat! ;)

Oh my goodness, that is so funny! Looks like the boys had a great time with their pumpkin seed trees, and I love how they turned out. They really get into their crafting, don't they? Seriously, they don't mess around! I love it!!
