Decorating the Christmas Tree

We spent most of the weekend leisurely putting up our Christmas tree and decorations. It always amazes me how quickly our fake tree comes together since there's no struggling to put it into the tree stand or stringing up any lights since it's pre-lit. When I was younger I always swore that I would never own a fake tree...but then I got married to a wonderful guy with bad allergies. It's well worth the trade off, but I still manage to sneak in a little bit of that Christmas smell in the form of a fresh balsam wreath each year instead. This year Sawyer was especially excited to help me put the ornaments on the tree, and he took a lot of pride in sticking similar ornaments next to each other on the same branch.

The boys also decorated their own mini tree for the upstairs playroom. It's a tipsy, leaning, one-sided masterpiece, and they are thrilled beyond belief with it :) It's decorated mostly with character ornaments that I got a couple of years ago at a 90% off After-Christmas-Sale at Hallmark. This is the first year that they were both old enough to immediately recognize that their ornaments have Lightning McQueen, Thomas the Train, Bob the Builder and other cartoon friends on them - they were SO excited!

This picture is a little blurry, but it appropriately captured the magic of the moment ♥

Sawyer & Sutton's finished tree

After decorating the small tree Sawyer got to work on our big tree.

He especially loved getting to use the step ladder to hang ornaments up high. We took turns passing the camera back and forth and taking pictures of each other going up the ladder.

Our finished tree! We opted to skip the beads and garland again this year because Sutton was having too much fun pulling on it before we even tried to get it up on the tree. Maybe next year!

Sutton thought he was hysterically funny trying to wear these light-up Lightning McQueen stocking as slippers.

This snow globe still manages to keep the boys fascinated for long periods of time. One of our old business clients gave it to Sawyer for his first Christmas three years ago, and every year they both love to sit and listen to it play holiday music and watch the snow swirl around. Apparently it's soothing and calming...Sutton fell asleep on the couch about five minutes after I took this picture!
