Yesterday we dropped the boys off at my parents' house for the afternoon, and while my mom took them to a b-day party for a second cousin that they have never even met, Mitch and I headed up to Folsom to spend the rest of the day together. We had lunch at Pizzeria Classico and walked around old town browsing the shops for awhile. Quite a few of the older shops have closed down, so there wasn't really all that much to do, but we still enjoyed walking around and spending time together. We checked out Folsom's new outdoor ice rink (which was the surprise reason I'd wanted to take him up to Folsom in the first place), but we decided against it after realizing that there was pretty much no one over the age of 12 on the ice...and with the sun out in full force, the ice was covered with a nice thick layer of water, and all the kids were soaked. Instead we drove around and checked out the Prairie City Offroad Park (we are SO taking our Jeep out there!) before heading to a few other stores where we got some more Christmas presents crossed off of our list. It might not have been the most exciting day we've ever spent together, but I still had a really great time just hanging out with him.
This morning Sawyer was terribly disappointed to find out that Mitch had gone to work after having had him home for the better part of the last 4 days. When I mentioned to him that it was Daddy's birthday today, he crumpled to the floor crying because he thought that Daddy was going to have a birthday party at work, and that he wasn't going to be able to go. I assured him that there was not going to be a party while Daddy was at work, and that WE would have an awesome birthday party at our house tonight, so after I dropped him off at daycare, Sutton and I headed to the dollar store to pick up a few party supplies for the impromptu celebration. The house was decorated with balloons and streamers, and I spent the day making slow oven-cooked brisket sandwiches (at Mitch's request) to go along with the ice cream cake we picked up at Safeway. Sawyer was quite impressed with our birthday party, and I was glad that the boys both seemed really excited and happy to celebrate Daddy's birthday with him. They both love him so much, and it's really heart warming to watch them and the special bond they all have.
Happy Birthday Old Man! ;)
